Why you should hire a professional Makeup Artist on your Wedding Day.

Your Wedding Day is the most-photographed day of your life. You will be in hundreds, if not thousands of photos. It's essential that your makeup lasts the whole day. Wedding makeup application is a specialized art. An experienced wedding makeup artist knows how your makeup will look in a photograph. It's an extra cost, and well worth it. Make sure to schedule a trial run a few months before the wedding. Be prepared. Find inspiration in magazines and red carpet looks of your favorite celebrities. A professional has the skills to recreate those looks. Wear white, or the shade of your gown. Take pictures afterwards. Sometimes makeup looks great in person, but not in photographs. And vice versa.

Your makeup should be applied in natural light near a window. Makeup done in a room with artificial light will have a different color temperature than natural light. If your Ceremony is outdoors or in bright room with windows, your makeup will not look the same.

A professional makeup artist has tricks of the trade that will keep your makeup fresh and long-lasting. Here are just a few. Use a primer under foundation and eye shadow, it's like prepping a canvas for color. Choose a foundation without SPF, or less than SPF15. It's crucial. Some formulas contain ingredients that physically reflect light. The complexion appears ghostly white in flash photography. Use shimmer products for a radiant glow, not sparkle. We once had a bride who used sparkly powder over her foundation. It rubbed off on the groom's cheek and created white spots on his skin in some of the photos. Sparkle products have flecks that cause flashback at the camera.

Choose a lip stain instead of a gloss. Lip gloss wears off quickly and will get all over the groom when you kiss him at the end of the ceremony. The gloss will reflect light and create a hot spot in photographs. If you're wearing a veil over your face, it will stick to the gloss. Adding a highlighter on the cheeks looks fresh and dewy. Adding it on the nose or forehead can look oily.

Kaitlyn's makeup is gorgeous! She is radiant. Her eyes are the focus. Browns, taupes and greys create a soft glamorous look. The eyes are sultry, not smoldering. Eye makeup looks that are too smoky can create shadows under the eyes in photographs. Kaitlyn's undereye area is bright and smooth. The lips are soft and natural for balance.

There are many makeup mistakes that can be avoided by hiring a professional makeup artist. We've seen Kim Kardashian contouring instead of rosy cheeks, harsh black liner creating under eye shadows, overdone powder settling into fine lines and no makeup at all

You still may decide to do your own makeup. It's your decision. Not every bride wants a makeup artist on their Wedding Day. Even if you are makeup-savvy, don't wait until the big day to apply your wedding day look. Practice, practice and practice until you have the look you want. As with anything wedding-related, it takes some planning and research. It requires trial and error, and a professional set of brushes. Remember "blend is your friend".

Lastly, don't forget about the Bridal Party's makeup. They will be in dozens of photos with the bride. You don't want them with different hair and makeup that will stand out. It distracts from the bride. Make sure to give them some guidelines so everyone looks cohesive.

It's the golden hour as the sun sets on Kaitlyn and Ryan's Wedding Day. Twenty five hundred photos later and still looking gorgeous. We love the just-married glow!
